What makes a Batouwe whip unique?

What growers appreciate is our high quality. Whips with a straight trunk that almost without exception establish quickly. Because they are delivered in pots, transplanting does not stress the plant. This gives a head start in growth.

1

Mother plants

Batouwe uses its own mother plants for cuttings. We know the origin of every cutting, allowing us to focus directly on quality.

2

Growing conditions

A whip or cutting in top condition requires top-level growing conditions. In our high-end propagation greenhouses, we produce nearly 500,000 homogeneous, strong, and well-hardened whip cuttings annually.

3

Wide assortment

We propagate and grow whips of more than 850 true-to-type avenue and ornamental tree species. We can deliver them year-round because they are all individually potted.

4

Distinctive

Our whips are always perfectly straight because we stake them. They have no roots curling around the pot, but quickly form a strong root ball thanks to the slotted pots we use.

Frank Toren - Advice and Sales

Whips - Frequently Asked Questions

What would you like to know?

How does Batouwe propagate?

We propagate from seeds, cuttings and grafts.

For whom does Batouwe grow whips?

Most whips are sold to growers who use them for further cultivation in open ground or containers.

Why does Batouwe use slotted pots and an Airpot-U system?

We do this to achieve maximum root development. This prevents roots from curling around the pot and encourages natural root growth. We believe a good root system is the foundation of the future plant.

When will I get the best results?

If planted in autumn before the wet season starts, the whip will already start rooting and can be staked, which benefits labor distribution for the grower. When a whip goes into winter well-rooted, spring growth is better.

What sizes and pot sizes are Batouwe whips available in?

Depending on the species, we deliver whips from approx. 30-40 cm up to 200-250 cm. Pot sizes range from very small (e.g., 1L) to larger pots like C20 (20L).

How does Batouwe deliver whips?

Preferably in pallet boxes. Longer whips (200-250 cm) are packed in whip boxes. We remove the slotted pot to prevent stem damage and save you work.

When can a whip be planted?

The best results come when whips are planted between late August and mid-October, while the soil is still warm and root activity is ongoing. In other words, before the whip stops growing. We also have species that we recommend planting in March due to frost.
