Sustainable working with the Phytobac: smart innovation at Batouwe

At Batouwe, quality is central – and that applies not only to our plants but also to how we care for the earth. That’s why we continuously invest in sustainable solutions. One of these smart and environmentally friendly innovations is the Phytobac: a system that safely and naturally treats leftover crop protection water. A silent force behind the scenes, with a positive impact on people, plants, and the environment.

What is a Phytobac?

A Phytobac is a purification system specifically designed to break down residues of crop protection products. Think of rinse water from spraying equipment or cleaning filling stations. Instead of this water ending up in the sewer or surface water, it is collected in the Phytobac and naturally purified there.
The system consists of a container filled with a mixture of straw and soil. Thanks to microorganisms in this mixture, the crop protection residues are biologically broken down. The water gradually evaporates, leaving no harmful substances behind in the soil or environment.

Why does Batouwe use the Phytobac?

Sustainability is not a side issue at Batouwe, but a conscious choice. As a grower, we feel responsible for the landscape we work in – and for the generations after us. With the Phytobac, we take a concrete and effective initiative to reduce our ecological footprint.
Moreover, the system perfectly complies with stricter environmental legislation and the increasing demands of customers, governments, and certification bodies. By using the Phytobac, we not only comply with regulations but also take a progressive approach. This shows that innovation and responsibility can go hand in hand.

Committed to perfection – also in sustainability

The Phytobac is just one of many steps Batouwe takes towards sustainability. From water conservation to the use of biological pest control: every decision is aimed at future-proof cultivation. Our motto “Committed to perfection!” applies not only to the final product but also to the process.
By connecting technology and nature, we are building a healthy and responsible business – where care for quality and the environment go hand in hand.
