New Highlight at Batouwe: Acer ginnala ‘Magic Merlot’

At Batouwe, we are always looking for special varieties that offer just that little extra for the grower. One of our newest highlights is the Acer ginnala ‘Magic Merlot’: an elegant maple with a stunning play of colors.
This selection stands out for its compact growth, rich leaf texture, and especially its spectacular autumn coloration. In the fall, the leaves turn an intense wine red – a deep, warm shade reminiscent of a fine glass of Merlot. Hence the name.
Besides its ornamental value, the ‘Magic Merlot’ is well suited for gardens, public green spaces, and even as a solitary specimen in pots. This variety is strong, well-branched, and low-maintenance.With this new Acer, we add a unique, colorful, and user-friendly variety to our assortment.

Key Characteristics:

  • In spring, the young leaves have a striking glossy deep purple color.
  • In summer, the foliage is glossy bronze-green transitioning to green.
  • In autumn, the leaves change color from yellow-orange to orange-red.
  • Upright, narrow growth habit with branches at a 45-degree angle from the main stem.
  • Beautiful branching, very uniform with short internodes.
  • Hardy to -20℃, tolerates air pollution, drought, wind, pavement, and road salt.
